Searching Traffic Records in Norman County

Minnesota Courts Records Online, known as MCRO, is the free statewide tool for public court record searches. Go to publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us and search by name, case number, or citation number. The system covers all Minnesota counties including Norman. No account or login is required.

There is an important limit: pre-conviction cases are not in MCRO. If your case has not yet been decided, it will not show up in an online search. To get information about a pending case, call the Norman County courthouse at (218) 784-5451. Once a case is resolved, it enters the public record and becomes searchable through MCRO. The system updates hourly during business hours.

Certified copies of records must be requested through the court clerk. Public access computers at the courthouse are available for on-site searches. MCRO is read-only -- you cannot use it to file documents or pay fines.

Paying Traffic Fines in Norman County

Norman County traffic fines can be paid online, by phone, by mail, or in person. Online payments go through webpay.courts.state.mn.us. There is a $2.34 convenience fee for online and phone payments. Wait at least 7 days after your citation date before the system will accept an online payment -- it takes time for the ticket to enter the court database.

Phone payments go to the Court Payment Center at (651) 281-3219 (metro) or (800) 657-3611 (toll-free). For mail, send a check or money order to: Court Payment Center, P.O. Box 898, Willmar, MN 56201. Write your citation number on the check. In-person payments are accepted at the Ada courthouse during regular hours.

You have 30 days from the citation date to respond. Pay or contact the court within that window. Missing the deadline can bring a default judgment and extra consequences. If your citation was for no insurance, do not pay online -- first send proof of coverage to the court and then follow up with staff about what to do next.

Traffic Laws and Penalties in Minnesota

Minnesota groups traffic violations by how serious they are. Most common citations are petty misdemeanors with fines up to $300. Minnesota Statute 169.14 sets speed limits at 30 mph in urban areas, 55 mph on most roads, 65 mph on expressways, and 70 mph on rural interstates. Exceeding 100 mph brings an automatic 6-month license revocation.

Texting while driving is a primary offense under Minnesota Statute 169.475 -- officers can stop you for it alone. The fine runs about $135-$140. Seat belt violations are also primary offenses under Minnesota Statute 169.686.

Minnesota uses conviction counts, not a points system. Four convictions in 12 months brings a 30-day suspension. Five in 12 months means 90 days. Eight or more in 24 months triggers a 1-year suspension. If you need a driving record, the Department of Vehicle Services charges $9 for a non-certified copy. Use form PS2502 and submit through the DVS records request page.
