Searching Traffic Records in Todd County

Minnesota Courts Records Online, or MCRO, is the free public tool for looking up court case records across the state. You can search by name, case number, or citation number. MCRO covers all 87 Minnesota counties including Todd, and it is available at publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us. No account or fee is required to search.

There is one important limit. MCRO only shows post-conviction records. Cases that are still open -- not yet resolved -- will not appear. For a pending case, call the Todd County courthouse at (320) 732-7800 or stop by during business hours. Staff can tell you current case status. Once a case is decided, it enters the public record and becomes searchable in MCRO. The system updates its data hourly during the business day.

If you need a certified copy of a record, you must request it through the court clerk in person or by mail. MCRO does not accept payments or document submissions. It is a search-only system. Public access computers at the courthouse also let you run searches on-site if you prefer not to use your own device.

Paying Traffic Fines in Todd County

For payable traffic citations in Todd County, you can pay online, by phone, by mail, or in person at the courthouse. Online payments go through webpay.courts.state.mn.us. A $2.34 convenience fee applies to online and phone payments. Wait at least 7 days after the citation date before paying online -- the ticket needs to be entered into the court system before the portal can find it.

Phone payments: call (651) 281-3219 (metro) or (800) 657-3611 (toll-free). For mail, send a check or money order payable to the court to: Court Payment Center, P.O. Box 898, Willmar, MN 56201. Write your citation number on the check so the payment gets credited to the right case. In-person payments are accepted at the Todd County Court Facility during regular office hours.

You have 30 days from the date of the citation to respond. Pay or contact the court to contest within that window. Missing the deadline can lead to a default judgment and added consequences for your license. If your ticket was for no proof of insurance, do not pay online. Fax proof of coverage to 320-231-6507 first, then contact Todd County court staff for guidance on next steps.

Your Options After Getting a Citation in Todd County

When you get a traffic ticket in Todd County, your main options are: pay the fine, contest the citation, or -- for a no-insurance citation -- submit proof of coverage. Paying is the quickest resolution for minor violations and closes the matter fast. If you want to contest, there are no hearing officers in Todd County, so you will appear before a judge. Call (320) 732-7800 to set a date before the 30-day window closes.

Most violations are petty misdemeanors with fines up to $300 under Minnesota Statute 169.89. Reckless driving is a misdemeanor under Minnesota Statute 169.13, carrying fines up to $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail. The level of the offense should factor into how you decide to respond. A petty misdemeanor for a few mph over the limit is a different situation than a reckless driving charge.

For questions about what to do, call the statewide self-help line at (651) 435-6535, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Staff can walk through the process with you. You can also find general traffic guidance at mncourts.gov/help-topics/traffic-issues.

Traffic Laws and Penalties in Minnesota

Speed limits in Minnesota are set by Minnesota Statute 169.14: 30 mph in urban areas, 55 mph on most roads, 65 mph on expressways, and 70 mph on rural interstates. Going 100 mph or faster results in an automatic 6-month license revocation. Highway 71 and Highway 27 are the main corridors through Todd County where speed is actively enforced.

Texting while driving is a primary offense under Minnesota Statute 169.475. Officers can stop you for it without any other violation. Fines run $135 to $140. Seat belt violations are also a primary offense under Minnesota Statute 169.686.

Minnesota does not use a points system. Four convictions in 12 months leads to a 30-day license suspension. Five in 12 months is 90 days. Eight or more in 24 months means a 1-year suspension. Non-certified driver records cost $9 and can be ordered via form PS2502 on the DVS records request page.
