Searching Traffic Records in Mower County

The Minnesota Courts Records Online system, or MCRO, is the free statewide public tool for looking up court case information. Search by name, case number, or citation number at publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us. It covers all Minnesota counties including Mower and requires no account or login.

There is a key limit to keep in mind. Pre-conviction cases -- meaning cases not yet resolved -- are not in MCRO. If your citation is still open, it will not appear in an online search. To get information on a pending case, call the Mower County courthouse at (507) 509-7013 or visit in person. After a case is decided, it becomes part of the public record and can be searched through MCRO. The system updates hourly during business hours.

Certified copies of records must be requested through the court clerk. Public access computers at the courthouse are available for on-site searches. MCRO is read-only -- you cannot file anything or pay a fine through it.

Paying Traffic Fines in Mower County

Mower County traffic fines can be paid four ways: online, by phone, by mail, or in person at the courthouse. The online portal is webpay.courts.state.mn.us. A $2.34 convenience fee applies to online and phone payments. You must wait at least 7 days from the citation date before the online system will accept your payment -- the ticket needs time to get entered into the court database.

Phone payments go to the Court Payment Center at (651) 281-3219 (metro) or (800) 657-3611 (toll-free). For mail, send a check or money order to: Court Payment Center, P.O. Box 898, Willmar, MN 56201. Write your citation number on the check. In-person payments are accepted at the Austin courthouse during regular hours.

You have 30 days from your citation date to respond -- pay or contact the court. Missing that deadline can lead to a default judgment. If your citation was for no insurance, do not pay online. Submit proof of insurance to the court first, then ask staff what your next step is.

Traffic Laws and Penalties in Minnesota

Traffic violations in Minnesota are divided by how serious they are. Most common citations are petty misdemeanors with fines up to $300. Minnesota Statute 169.14 sets speed limits at 30 mph in urban areas, 55 mph on most roads, 65 mph on expressways, and 70 mph on rural interstates. Exceeding 100 mph brings an automatic 6-month license revocation on top of any fine.

Texting while driving is a primary offense under Minnesota Statute 169.475. Officers can pull you over for it without any other violation. The fine is roughly $135-$140. Seat belt violations are also primary offenses under Minnesota Statute 169.686.

Minnesota does not use a points system. It tracks conviction counts instead. Four in 12 months brings a 30-day suspension. Five in 12 months means 90 days. Eight or more in 24 months results in a 1-year suspension. Need a copy of your driving record? The Department of Vehicle Services charges $9 for a non-certified copy.
